Who is the 'LASIK patient counselor' and why should you care?
Concierge is a French term and originally applied only to hotels as a person who helped guests with services related to their stay. In America and elsewhere the term has been extended to a broader range of meanings. The Wikipedia defines a "Hospital Concierge" as: 'In hospitals, concierge services are becoming increasingly available. A hospital concierge provides similar services to those of a hotel concierge, but serve patients and employees as well'. It is not so important what the term is but rather the qualifications and duties of the person involved.
At Dishler Laser Institute, our patient counselor, Dana C., is a registered nurse (RN). She has worked at our facility for a number of years in a variety of nursing duties including scrubbing for various surgeries and caring for patients pre and post operatively. She has her own office where she can in private discuss both the medical as well as the personal impacts of LASIK or other procedures that a patient might undergo. In addition, she has had LASIK herself so she has first hand experience on the process that a prospective patient will likely experience. Dana is able to take patients on a tour of the surgical facility as well as to communicate directly with everyone on the staff in the patient's best interest. She can discuss everything from financial matters (and qualify someone for financing through one of our credit plans) as well as arrange for appointments, hotel accommodations, and make other arrangements for transportation and whatever else a person might need during their visit like a true concierge. In addition to this, she can discuss personal matters, such as medical concerns, to a degree that other less qualified individuals would not be capable of. Everyone who meets Dana seems to like and trust her warm and confident manner. For many she is the first contact to our office besides our front office people who answer phone calls and can be the last person that visits with them when they leave for the day, after their procedure, or at the completion of their follow-up.
Laser vision correction is about more than just the laser treatment portion of the procedure. Of course it is definitely important to have the best and latest technology and the experience to know how to use it. Beyond this we believe that teamwork is essential to guide all of our patients through their experience here at Dishler Laser, and Dana is the point person on this journey. We have been told so many times by perspective patients who have visited us along with other laser vision centers, that the way that they have been treated during their time with us was exceptional and unique. We are less concerned with the number of patients who choose us for their LASIK surgery in Denver, than we are with the experience which each patient has whether they choose to have surgery with us or not. We are constantly working to improve the patient experience and learn from fine hotels how to make a stranger feel welcome while at our facility.
From our highly experienced and trained front office staff, to the excellent world class doctors who examine patients, to our nurses who run and work at the surgery center, and our patient counselor, we have a core group of people who are dedicated to making the experience, the results and the care received at Dishler Laser the finest possible. Our practice depends on referrals from satisfied patients, and from referring doctors. We know that one bad experience counts more than twenty good ones, and we will do everything in our power to make everyone who seeks our care satisfied with their experience. Of course it is not possible to make everyone happy all of the time, but our mission is to be the best possible LASIK center in Colorado and the region.
I am so happy that we have Dana helping our patients as our patient concierge, and I invite anyone who is even thinking of LASIK or any other laser vision correction procedure to visit with her during a no charge consultation.
