What LASIK costs
There are several web sites that track the cost of LASIK procedures by geographic region, by year, and by other metrics. It is surprising how little the costs of this procedure have changed over the last 10 years, and how little it varies between providers. There is a range of costs which are certainly more in places like New York or Los Angeles, but in the midwest including Colorado, these costs are fairly stable. In general LASIK costs between $1000 and $3000 per eye or $2000 to $6000 total. For the quality centers which offer blade free LASIK with state of the art lasers, the average cost is about $2500 per eye or $5000. Our charges are significantly lower than these averages.
Some centers market directly to perspective patients with "teaser" rates offering very low costs for LASIK surgery. Others, offer guarantees such as "lifetime committment" or 20/20 guarantees. In order to understand what LASIK costs to consumers, we need to understand what it costs for providers of the service. To begin with, few realize that in addition to the obvious costs of running a medical/surgical practice such as rent, capital equipment, staffing, and insurance, there are variable but significant costs in providing vision correction surgery. Almost all lasers today require a per procedure fee to be paid to the laser manufacturer. For cases performed by the all laser method, there are two lasers and therefore twice the royalty costs which is a total of four (4) payments for each patient. In addition, there are the costs of disposables, and other items used in the procedure. Perhaps the greatest expense many centers incur are the marketing expenses which include advertising and payments to spokespersons. When a center has a famous person who has selected them for surgery, and that person has their image, quotes, videos, etc. on that site, there is almost always a large endorsement fee which was paid to that person who is endorsing a particular provider.
At Dishler LASIK we do things differently. We do not pay any endorsement fees. We were the first to perform LASIK and enjoy a wide range of referrals without extensive marketing expenses. We are a member of the prestigious "Trusted LASIK Surgeons" organization. Also, because we have been at the same location for 25 years we have amortized most of our fixed expenses which keeps our costs down. We also were involved in many technologies early, so we participate in favorable rates for the procedure fees we pay to laser companies. We have only two prices, one for most everyone, and one for complex cases, rather than a low introductory price with many upsells. We do not encourage things like lifetime commitments or 20/20 guarantees, in that these cost more than we think they are worth. We will provide these services upon request after explaining their inherent limitations. We want to provide the most world class vision correction at the most affordable price. This is why we guarantee that we will be the low cost provider for custom all blade free LASIK, the current state of the art procedure that you should want, with Denver's most experienced LASIK surgeon and staff. We also have diagnostic capabilities to evaluate patients to determine who is a good candidate, which other centers do not have. For instance we have the OCT device known as the Visante that measures the thickness of the cornea, and its shape in a unique way that is extremely useful.
Another way that we keep the costs of LASIK affordable is that we work with over 200 referring doctors who perform much of the pre and post operative care, freeing us to do the specialized care we need to operate more efficiently. This serves everyones interests in that most patients can continue to be cared for by their local doctor while sending their patients to us for vision correction treatment.
Financing has become a key factor, especially in this economy, because it makes LASIK so much more affordable. We work with two different finance companies, Care Credit, and Chase. Because of our relationship with these companies, we have had very good success with getting our patients approved for no interest financing for 24 months. When this is combined with our pricing, state of the art LASIK can be acquired for payments of under $3.50 per day for both eyes. When one considers the savings on contact, solutions, glasses, etc. the net cost of LASIK is extremely affordable and less than going out to a dinner for two once a month, or a couple of tankfuls of gas.
We can preapprove most prospective patients in a matter of minutes to see if they qualify for these exceptional rates, and we encourage them to take advantage of our no cost/no obligation free examination to both determine if they are a candidate for LASIK as well as have themselves preapproved for this procedure. There is a long list of little extras that we provide, and we would be happy to discuss these when you have your consultation for LASIK.
If you have any questions, please call and talk with one of our doctors who can provide you with any information that you require. If you want to check if your doctor works with us, we would be happy to assist in finding out or if not we can call your doctor and see if they would like to refer to us in your case.
